Exning

According to the 12th Century Book of Ely, Liber Eliensis, Exning is the site of St Etheldreda's birth and baptism. Whilst there is no archaeological or other textual data to corroborate this claim, there are sound reasons for believing it to be true. Exning is safely tucked behind the mighty Devil's Dyke earthwork which would have made it a very safe place for a newest member of the Wuffings Royal family to be born.
